Floral Artistry Gets Around

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

I get around.  Depending on your generation you are either singing Beach Boys or Tupac right now, but seriously folks, Floral Artistry got around this week!  Here are a few places my work showed up on the web this week:

Daria Bishop Photographers posted this gorgeous wedding on their blog that we did at Whiteface Club and Resort in Lake Placid, NY.  The couple is absolutely beautiful and so is the scenery, but I have to say that one of my favorite photos is of the bride’s hair in curls being sprayed with lots (and lots) o’ hairspray.  It’s one of the coolest photos of a bride getting her hair done that I’ve seen.  Maybe it’s my inner-Jersey-girl that is drawn to that fine, fine mist, but you should check it out and see for yourself.

A French (ooh la la)-Canadian site promoting the MS Carnation Campaign posted a link to my creme carnation design from DIY week.  The post is in French y’all so here’s the Google translated version, too.

Prepare to Wed gave me a shout out (again with a nod to my carnation post…the only carnations on my site by the way!) in this post about the royal bouquet.

Here’s another look at those famous carnations that made their way around both English and French speaking North America this week!

Honeysuckle Pink Flowers for your Wedding

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

I made a guest-blog-appearance yesterday on Under The Moon, the official blog of Lasso’d Moon Designs, with a nod to Pantone’s Color of the Year, honeysuckle.  Honeysuckle is a medium-pink with undertones of red–some might choose to call it a reddish pink, but I’m on the true, medium-pink page with it myself.

This is the inspiration board that appeared in yesterday’s post.

20 flowers that are available in the honeysuckle pink palette:

Roses, Bouvardia, Zinnias, Dahlias, Peonies, Callas, Snapdragons, Sweet William, Anemones, Ranunculus, Asiatic lilies, Tulips, Godetia, Orchids, Sweet Peas, Phlox, Gerberas, Orchids, Gladiolus and Waxflower…just to name a few.  Of course, honeysuckle vine (Lonicera), comes in a honeysuckle pink color, but I would not recommend it as a fresh cut flower.

What is your favorite honeysuckle pink flower?

Thanks to Carey from Lasso’d Moon for inviting me to be a guest blogger.

Floral thoughts for Flirty Fleurs

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

In my humble opinion…OK, so I have never actually referred to my own point of view as “humble”, but I did write an article on how Supermarkets killed the local flower shop for FlirtyFleurs.com for their In My Humble Opinion series.  {click here for link}

I Love to share the blog love!…and give props to your local mom and pop flower shop!

Floral Artistry featured on FlirtyFleurs.com

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

I’m super excited about my Fabulous Florist Feature on FlirtyFleurs.com today!  {Check it out here!}

Flirty Fleurs is a blog about flowers and the floral designers who make them into art.  Created by Alicia Swede of Bella Fiori Events and Andrea Haydon of AK Haydon Floral Designs it’s a pretty sweet site full of professional floral inspiration.

This bridal bouquet includes poppies, sweet peas, ranunculus, stock, spray roses, lisianthus and zinnias.  The stems are wrapped with the bride’s grandmother’s handkerchief–a perfect finishing touch.

Happy 1 year of wedding blogging to me!

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

I have been blogging for one year…since Nov. 4th 2009!  Happy Anniversary to me!!..and it’s been so much fun to hear people say, “You’re blogging?!” or even better, “I’ve been reading your blog.”  I smile and think to myself, “You subscribe to my feed?  You like me.  You really like me!”  Soooo…as an aw schucks, thanks for reading gesture I am giving away a Floral Artistry Logo T-shirt this week when you share some of your thoughts with me.

I’ve been sharing “Alison’s favorite things” with you (we’re 20 favorites deep so far!) and now I want to know what some of your favorites are.  Submit a comment below or send me an e-mail with one (or as many as you want to share!) of your favorite things either from Vermont or your home state or anywhere in the world and I will select one oh-so-lucky t-shirt winner on November 12.

Please remember to include your t-shirt size (most sizes available).  My organic cotton shirts were printed locally in Burlington at Amalgamated Cultureworks on American Apparel T’s.  You can view a sizing chart here.

Wonderland Inspired Party Details

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

One of the most frequent compliments I’ve received about my work lately from friends, brides and colleagues have been on my work with paper flowers when I helped the lovely & talented Daria Bishop with an Alice In Wonderland inspired “Mad Hatter Tea Party” for her daughter’s 12th birthday party in May.  Of all things, paper flowers!!

As you can see from her blog post (by clicking here) it was a complete and utterly adorable success.  It was a lot of fun to help with, too!  There are lots of fabulous pictures on Daria’s blog, but below are a few shots of the tabletop I swiped (Thanks, Daria!!) to give you a little taste & whet your whistle!

The hot pink blossoms in the bottles are boronia and I love the antique keys tied to their necks!  You have to love the amazing cupcakes from Vermont Sweet Tooth.  Amazing cupcakes!  I think Daria did a fabulous job and she can throw me a party anytime!

Beautiful Wedding Inspiration

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Thanks to inspirational wedding blogs like Style Me Pretty, The Wedding Chicks, The Bride’s CafeWedding Bee and Snippet & Ink (just to name a few!) brides have amazing access to fabulous wedding ideas!  As a floral designer I think it’s so much fun when a bride comes to me with an inspiration board (or ten!) filled with swatches, samples & images that express a certain charm or elegance she wants to capture on her wedding day.  Brides and wedding planners alike are fortunate to have a plethora of current & eclectic wedding bloggers who share vintage, rustic, modern and formal events to admire & inspire!

You never know when inspiration will strike!  I got inspired by these white ‘Patience’ roses & lavender sweetheart roses when I heard them calling my name in the cooler at my wholesaler yesterday.  Garden roses are a classic, romantic choice for bridal bouquets and wedding work in general!  Use them alone for a simple, clean look or add greenery, berries or tendrils for some flow.
