Sweet Wedding Slideshow by Sabin Gratz

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

I first posted pictures from Becca & Blain’s Vermont wedding to highlight some flower shots after their wedding at Stowehof in June (you can see it here), but today I have some truly gorgeous professional shots from Sabin Gratz to share with you.  The bride & groom and their guests clearly had a blast as they boogied down to the sounds of Cassarino Music!  They didn’t let a little rain dampen their big day!

Check out Becca & Blain’s slideshow here!  If you are a sentimental fool like me you might want to grab some tissues, too.  You can feel the love!  I cannot pick a favorite photo, but I would have to put the shots with the dogs in their daisy collars on the list of contenders.

Visit Sabin Gratz’s website to see even more sweet Vermont wedding photos throughout the seasons!  Thanks for sharing your beautiful pics with me!

Below are some bouquet shots I took in my studio before the wedding.

Whitney & Andy’s Wedding at The Ponds

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Whitney and Andy were married at The Ponds at Bolton Valley and it was one of the biggest weddings that The Ponds has hosted according to the wedding coordinator, Rachel.  Whitney chose soft purple tones with blue, white and green accents as the color palette and their style was summery and Vermonty with a touch of elegance.  The bride’s mother attended a wedding I did last year and she happened to recognized their flowers in my portfolio!–so it was really important to me to meet (if not totally exceed!) their expectations.

The bride’s bouquet includes white hydrangea, pink lisianthus, white sweet peas, roses, freesia and fresh lavender.  The stems are tied with a sage green organza ribbon.

Below is another shot of the bride’s bouquet, a clutch bouquet for the mother of the bride, and some of the bridesmaids’ bouquets which are made up of lavender stock, 2 shades of blue delphinium, white roses, green hydrangea, purple trachellium & lavender freesia.

How cute is their little sign at the entrance to The Ponds?!

Whitney wanted the centerpieces to be fluffy and garden-inspired, but not too wildflowery.  They are all a little different, but most of the pieces include either purple or blue hydrangea, green hydrangea, stock, thistle, roses, lisianthus, delphinium & Ti leaves to cover the stems.

I love the mantelpiece at The Ponds.  Hydrangea was the perfect accessory.  Simple & clean.

Here are some more centerpiece shots and a couple of smaller pieces for cocktail tables.

The arbor by the pond is a beautiful backdrop for a Vermont wedding ceremony.  I get a kick out of the sound of frogs “ribbit-ing” as I set up the flowers out there!

Congratulations to the newlyweds on what sounds like a dream wedding day!  I cannot wait to see professional pics from Amanda at Orchard Cove Photography.  I saw a sneak peek at a shot of Whitney and Andy as they recessioned down the aisle–they were absolutely beaming!

Mara & Jim at Artesano Iron Works Gallery

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

When one of my closest friends from college asked me to do the flowers for her sister’s wedding in Philadelphia this July of course I said, Yes, but when I found out Mara & Jim were getting married at Artesano Iron Works Gallery I got really excited.  We love Vermont weddings, but if we are going to travel for a destination wedding a unique cityscape is the perfect contrast.

Food was a huge part of the theme for this couple.  Mara told me she loves artichokes, fresh herbs and purple & lavender flowers (but nothing too “fluffy”!), and then she pretty much let me do my thing with the designs.  Some of my favorite flowers in this wedding include the sweet peas and scabiosa in the bouquets…and of course, the huge artichokes on the tables!

The bride’s bouquet (above) includes dark purple sweet peas, lisianthus buds, scabiosa, lavender & white roses, lavender freesia, fresh lavender, rosemary, mint & oregano.  Her bridesmaids wore a deep purple-plum color and carried bouquets with a few more green & white accents.  Bottom left photo shows a single purple sweet pea.

I love this balcony.  These are two of my favorite pics.

They exchanged vows in the courtyard and then guests moved into the gallery for the cocktail hour and reception.  Mara looked stunning and I could see Jim whisper, “You look so beautiful,” more than once during the ceremony…as if he didn’t even notice anyone else!

We were prepared for an indoor ceremony since it rained most of the day prior to the wedding so we adorned the doorway with fresh flowers & greens.  The doors open to the courtyard.

Artichokes were featured on all the tables.  Wine bottles displayed the table numbers and to complete the look tapas were served on the tables when guests sat down.

There are a few fantastic iron candelabras in the gallery and the artwork is impressive.  Anyone who knows me could easily guess that this butterfly sculpture was my favorite piece.

To mix it up and keep with a foodie theme some of the tables had white pillar candles nestled in split green peas and lentils with rosemary, lavender & rose accents, oh yeah, and artichokes!

The bride and groom made donations to Heifer International for their wedding favor (one of my personal favorite charities, too!) and each table got a different donation such as a pig or a bee hive.  Don’t you think starting out a marriage with such a lovely gesture makes for a great beginning!  It truly was a wonderful day.  Congrats to Mara & Jim on a beautiful wedding day–it was a day filled with happy faces and your smiles said it all!

Kate & Alex–Destination wedding in Vermont

Monday, July 5th, 2010

I have been really lucky to work with some awesome couples and Kate and Alex who had a destination wedding at The Essex on June 27th definitely continued that trend!  They planned their Vermont wedding while attending law school and medical school, respectively, and they could be found in D.C. or Montana…or somewhere in-between!…while they were planning their big day.  Their nature-inspired designs feature dahlias, lavender, thistle, poppy pods, snapdragons, roses, larkspur, lisianthus, scabiosa, ranunculus, sweet William and freesia.

The groom was involved in the planning details and he told us a few times how much he liked the flowers.  How cool is that?!  Boutonnieres include thistle & lavender (left), Corsages for the grandmothers also include lisianthus buds wrapped with raffia for a simple touch.

Bride’s bouquet (right & top left) included orange dahlias, snapdragons, yellow freesia, purple stock, lisianthus, scabiosa, spray roses, lavender, poppy pods, ranunculus, sweet William & thistle.  Her 2 attendants bouquets (bottom left) also include yellow roses.

The bridesmaids wore black plum dresses & their bouquets were tied with a green silk ribbon.

In the hours before their traditional Jewish ceremony in the garden the clouds were ominous, but happily the rain held off!  The chuppah was draped with the bride’s grandmother’s lace tablecloth.  I love this detail!  Adding family pieces always make a chuppah more special.

A closer look at the chuppah decor, the sap buckets & mason jars that hung down the aisle.

As a wedding favor Kate and Alex donated 500 lbs. of food to the Vermont Foodbank.   Heartwarming, isn’t it?  I think an altruistic gift is the best way to start off a marriage!

Mossy containers are sort of my ‘signature’ centerpiece–I love the gardeny flowers & thistle.  These designs include larkspur, snapdragons, roses, sweet William, lisianthus, poppy pods, freesia, leucodendron, spray roses & thistle with Japanese pussy willow from my garden.

I cannot wait to see their wedding photos!  We saw Daria and Andy Bishop hard at work! (Well, actually they said they were having a great time, but hard at work nonetheless!)  Kate was simply stunning in her beautiful dress and Alex was as dapper as a groom could be.  It was a pleasure working with you on your Vermont wedding.  Mazel tov!

Becca & Blain’s Wedding in Stowe, Vermont

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Becca & Blain are a VT couple whose style I love!  They love wine & they love their dogs and both were represented beautifully in their June wedding at Stowehof.  Their easy-going, leave-it-to-the-professionals approach made my job so much fun…And a color palette of coppery oranges and lemon yellows with pops of peach is just what the drizzly day called for.

Their adorable table numbers featuring their dogs, Salinger & Dallas, are probably my favorite detail, although the custom corks with their logo which held the escort cards were pretty darn DIY savvy.  I usually start with something floral, but check out their pooches who posed in various locations around Vermont!

Onto flowers…The bridesmaids wore lemon yellow and their bouquets included (top row) leonidas roses, yellow spray roses, white freesia, orange ranunculus, peach gerberas & roses, yarrow & oregano.   The bride carried white peonies, sweet peas, leonidas & peach roses, yellow freesia, ranunculus, yarrow & oregano.  Bottom left is the front of her bouquet, right is the back (aka the bride’s view!).

The place cards were displayed in customized corks.  They asked their guests to write a wine recommendation on the corks & then gave them corkscrews to take home.

The casual, country inspired centerpieces included snapdragons, freesia, roses, fresh oregano, sweet peas, spray roses, gerberas, dahlias and ranunculus in mason jars.  I love the linens.

A groomsman posed so I could get a shot of his tie…the groom wore a bow-tie.

Here’s another glimpse at the table numbers.  They really are too cute.  Clever couple!

So clever in fact, that they made a key so folks would know where in VT the pics were taken.  These dogs got around!  They were at the State House, Magic Hat, Mad River Glen, VT Teddy Bear Factory, Church Street, Snow Farm Vineyard, Ben & Jerry’s…to name a few!

The bride & groom were not afraid of a little rain.  We set up for their ceremony in a drizzle.

Congratulations to Becca & Blain! (and Salinger and Dallas, too!)  Best wishes to both of you and good luck getting through all those new wines you are going to have to try!  It was great working with you…I love when a couple gives me the freedom to just do my thing!  I am sure your fabulous DIY details will inspire other Vermont couples.

Alexa & Michael’s June Wedding

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Alexa and Michael tied the knot on Saturday at her parents’ home in Burlington.  They have an amazing view of the waterfront so it was easy to see why they wanted to invite 75 of their closest friends to join them there!  Alexa’s floral style ranged from classic peony and rose bouquets to funky green anthurium and succulents so her designs were a melding of the classic wedding blooms and the modern feeling that she desired.  Both Michael and Alexa’s father are professional chef’s so we added some olive branches, bay leaves and fresh oregano to the mix as a nod to the foodie side of the family.  Eve Event was there to capture the evening and the bride’s maid of honor (who just happens to be a wedding planner in LA!), Katy Carrier, saw to many of the details.

Above are some shots I took outside my studio.  The maid of honor’s bouquet (top left) includes roses, freesia, lisianthus, ranunculus, oregano, sedum & trachellium.  The bride’s bouquet (center) includes white peonies from my garden, roses, freesia, lisianthus, ranunculus, oregano, lady’s mantle and a few accents of trachellium.  Additional blooms used in these designs include hydrangea, callas, orchids, Ti leaves and ornithogalum (star of Bethlehem).  Below are a few pics we took of the set-up.

Congratulations to Alexa & Michael!  This was particularly fun for me to work on because I was able to use peonies, sedum, lady’s mantle, oregano and Japanese pussywillow from my gardens.  I am looking forward to seeing some shots from the party…especially the food!…and, of course, the beautiful couple!

Kerith & Charles’ Wedding at The Old Lantern

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Kerith and Charles were wed on Saturday at The Old Lantern in Charlotte, VT.  Kerith is one of those brides who took DIY to another level when she carved her guests’ names into river rocks to serve as place cards and even took a wood-burning class in order to make her own table numbers!  She simply did not mess around when it came to the personal touches.  We added a single stem of either freesia, lisianthus, dianthus, hypericum berries, scabiosa or agronis to each place setting which proudly displayed menus printed on balsa wood (guess who made them!…yep, the bride!) tucked in the napkins.  They were simply too cute.  Great work on the details and congratulations to you both!!!

The bride’s bouquet included green cymbidium orchids, white roses, green mini-hydrangea, purple lisianthus, dark burgundy dahlias, scabiosa, white nigella, freesia, purple tulips  and agronis accents.  The stems were tied with a band of purple silk dupioni ribbon.

The maid of honor and bridesmaids’ bouquets included hydrangea, dahlias, roses, tulips, lisianthus, green dianthus, nigella, hypericum berries and scabiosa with agronis.

Here are those rocks I told you about…

A sap bucket full of blooms helps to frame the ceremony on the porch!

And here are the menus the bride printed herself!!!

This was one of the nicest wedding quilt “guest books” I have seen so far.  By the way, how cute are the little cow creamers as favors?  I think they are adorable!  The Vermont Teddy Bear bride & groom were appropriately saving their seats for the reception!

Kristen & Adam’s Wedding at The Lilac Inn

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Kristen & Adam are my first super sweet couple of the season.  They were married on Saturday at The Lilac Inn in Brandon, Vermont and despite the pending rain not a drop fell on them!  The bride wanted a natural, seasonal & gardeny style and loves an eclectic look with a modern-vintage feeling.  Lilacs were the inspiration and I had so much fun working on these arrangements.  If you love purple and lavender then this wedding is for you…

The bride carried white lilacs, orchids, roses, lisianthus, freesia, hydrangea & thistle.

A bridemaid’s bouquet & small clutch bouquet for the mother of the bride.

Attendants carried hydrangea, lavender freesia, white roses, purple-edged lisianthus & thistle.

The men wore boutonnieres of white spray roses, hypericum berries & thistle.

An eclectic mix of mason jars and milk bottles.

Lilacs, stock, purple anemone, hypericum & thistle with hydrangea leaf for cocktail tables.

The ceremony was in the beautiful gardens which were blooming with lilacs.

Floral swag for fence post at ceremony site.

The reception at the Inn.

Centerpieces included two styles:  Floral designs & Pillar candles with a mix of smaller vases.

The bride & groom wrote individual notes to each of their guests inside their place cards!  Spruce saplings were displayed as favors and we added a few bundles of lavender.

Congratulations to Kristen and Adam on their beautiful Vermont wedding!  You were a lot of fun to work with and it was a pleasure to be a part of your big day!

Caitlin & Alex part 2

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Details, details, details.  Beautiful weddings are all about the details and Caitlin & Alex had some pretty sweet ones at The Round Barn.  Clockwise from top left:  Each table was named after a different plant species (so up my alley!) and the menu was printed on the back, Curly willow in a birch basket was the centerpiece for the place card table which was lined with a bed of moss & pine cones, Caitlin made moss monograms to greet their guests and super cute “bride” & “groom” signs for their chairs, Candles tied with cedar adorned the cocktail tables, Irene’s cakes by design created 2 beautiful cakes which were the centerpieces on the dessert buffet, Menus were displayed to give guests a peek at what was in store for the evening and finally, a closer look at the place cards punctuated with pine cones.

If you missed yesterday’s post you’ll see some floral detail shots from Caitlin and Alex’s big day.  They were so much fun to work with I am almost sorry the wedding’s over!

Caitlin & Alex

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Caitlin and Alex were married on Sunday at The Round Barn in Waitsfield.  There was snow on the ground and a slight nip in the air, but not so chilly that the flowers were in danger of freezing!  I just love their style.  Nature-inspired designs with branches & pine cone details…SO Vermont!!  Their color palette was plum, olive and white.  Caitlin looked absolutely stunning in her dress, her attendants and flower girl were beautiful and the groom and his attendants were sharp as could be in dark brown tuxedos.  Even their parents and grandparents looked gorgeous.  We look forward to seeing photos from Curran photography who was there to shoot the day, but here is a little collection of flower shots we took.

Flowers included white roses, freesia, callas, lisianthus, sweet william, dahlias, anemones, tulips, hydrangea, stock, waxflower, leucodendron, berzelia, agonis and cedar with pine cones & curly willow.  Stay tuned for more detail shots tomorrow!
