Summer Wedding Flowers at Whiteface Lodge

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

It is officially summertime and Sarah & Andy had a summery June wedding at The Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid.  The colors were vibrant and the main instruction I got from the bride was “no muted tones” so you’ll find super bright, fun blooms in this wedding.  I started taking pictures when we were still in the car!

The van was completely loaded with flowers without an inch to spare!

I took a couple of shots of the bouquets before we headed to the ferry.

The attendants wore Bright Dahlia dresses from J. Crew so their bouquets brought color.

I seriously dig this red and pink color combo the bride carried.  I think it’s both romantic and modern.  Her bouquet included pink peonies, dahlias, Tiega roses, red tulips and spray roses.

Here’s a shot of the 6 attendants’ bouquets with the bride’s bouquet.

The bridesmaids carried orange ranunculus, yellow freesia, red spray roses, pink roses and fresh herbs I cut from my garden including oregano, mint and ladies’ mantle.

The bride liked this wedding I did at the Whiteface Club so it was inspiration for their designs.

The centerpieces were labelled with trail markers and included orange gerberas, VT grown Asiatic lilies, pink peonies, dahlias, delphinium, red and orange spray roses, sweet William and fresh rosemary.

The rainy day called for an indoor ceremony and our birch chuppah was the perfect touch for the Adirondack style of the lodge.  The officiant was the bride’s sister!

Large sap bucket arrangements marked each side of the chuppah.

Mini sap buckets tied to the chairs down the aisle completed the look!

Congratulations to Sarah and Andy on your beautiful wedding day!…a Brooklyn couple with a Vermont floral designer and an Adirondack-style wedding!  We could hear the guests buzzing during the cocktail hour and I can tell you it sounded like quite a party.

Purple, White and Blue Wedding At The Round Barn Farm

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

I often work with couples for 7-12 months before their wedding day, but this bride and groom started planning their wedding only 4 months ago–Kelly and Fred didn’t want to waste any time once they got engaged!  They knew they wanted to get married in Vermont and since they travelled from Mississippi for their nuptials they definitely fall into the “destination wedding” category.  The distance did not stop them from having lots of personalized details that made the day extra special.

You may recall seeing these hand wrapped milk bottles a few weeks ago, but that was just the beginning of their DIY awesomeness.  There were homemade mad-libs where guests could fill-in-the-blanks with wedding advice; match sticks in lieu of seating cards with a sign that read, “We found our perfect match, now find yours”; and since the groom’s last name is Olive, well, “Olive You” candy favors finished off the night.

Here is a look at the bride and attendant’s bouquets.  The overall feeling was a Vermont country style and the only serious instruction I got from Kelly was NO ROSES.  Not only no roses, but nothing that even resembled a rose…like, seriously, she didn’t even like ranunculus which is a floral darling of many brides!  Her bouquet included lilacs, lily of the valley, muscari, anemones, sweet peas, dahlias, tulips and dusty miller.  When I delivered her bouquet she looked at her maid of honor and said, “Remember when we used to pick this as kids?”, referring to the silver foliage.  Needless to say that made me happy.

Here is another look at the bouquets.

We prepared for both an indoor and outdoor ceremony, but once the sky opened up and started dumping buckets of water on us it seemed like inside was the best decision!  Mini-sap buckets donned the table numbers (another cute idea from The MOB).  Cuisine Lucette created the lovely cakes.

Here are those super cute favors I told you about.  We also added some mason jar and curly willow “chandeliers” to the barn.

Both the bride and groom’s last names start with “O” so there were a lot of O-names on the match sticks!

Despite the distance they travelled Kelly and Fred made The Round Barn feel like home and I am sure their guests could feel that at every turn.  Congratulations on your beautiful day!  It was a pleasure to work with Kelly and her mom, Pat, on the details of this wedding.  Kelly is an absolute hoot–really, laugh out loud funny e-mails a-plenty–and I think I’m kinda gonna miss her!

DIY Wedding with Homespun Details

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

It’s the last day of March and we are expecting nearly a foot of snow in Vermont so it’s the perfect time to share this DIY winter wedding with homespun details.  Seriously homespun details–the bride and her mother designed the bride’s wedding attire from the dress to the headpiece to the adorable handwarmer the bride carried instead of a traditional bouquet.

I love the authentic vintage feeling of their wedding pics.  The photo credit on these beauties goes to  Brandon Vick Weddings.

Melissa is an artist so her vintage-glam inspired vision was brought to life beautifully!  Shawn’s white orchid boutonniere is finished with a grey velvet ribbon and a shiny little button to match the bride’s velvet muff.  These are some of my favorite corsage & boutonniere details

I first met Melissa when I started teaching a Fresh Flower Design class at Burlington City Arts and when she told me she was getting married I knew it would be awesome.  As far as DIY details go this couple hit it out of the park!  Are you a DIY Bride?  If so, what do-it-yourself projects are you planning for your wedding?

Spring Wedding at The Round Barn

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Sarah and John were married at The Round Barn in Waitsfield, VT on Saturday afternoon.  It was a truly lovely day for an early spring wedding in Vermont with a super moon to finish out the evening.  The style for this wedding was vintage-inspired with a “beginning of spring” feeling.  There were so many great DIY details for this wedding–from the save-the-dates to the table runners to the box of antique keys for guests to offer “keys to a happy marriage”.

The bride’s bouquet was made up of white roses, tulips, freesia, lisianthus, green ranunculus, mini green hydrangea, bupleurum and a touch of silver dollar eucalyptus.  It is finished with a band of cotton ribbon.  The bride had a locket which I pinned to the bouquet when I arrived at the Inn.

Here is another look {or two} at the bride’s bouquet.  I like the groom’s boutonniere to seem like it was plucked out of the bride’s bouquet.  John’s boutonniere was made of green ranunculus, a white spray rose and green dianthus.

The groom’s mother designed their save-the-dates with two little bluebirds perched in birch trees so we incorporated a couple of bluebirds in the wreath for the ceremony and designed centerpieces in birch containers.  The bride and her mom made the cutest burlap table runners which added such a nice touch to the reception.

Do you see two bluebirds nesting in the wreath?  To pick up on the pale blue tone I added accents of thistle into the designs.

Congratulations to Sarah and John!  This was the first wedding of my 10th wedding season and after all of my prep the one thing I forgot to do is charge my camera battery so I could get more pics of all the super sweet details!  {Ugh, sigh.}  I hope you’ll share some of your professional shots with me–you make such a lovely couple!

November Wedding at Sleepy Hollow Inn

Friday, November 19th, 2010

It was an unbelievably beautiful (like mid-50′s and sunny kinda beautiful) November day for Annie and Andrew’s wedding at Sleepy Hollow Inn in Huntington, Vermont.  Perhaps the weather took a cue from Annie’s floral choices of irises for a spring-like minimalistic feeling–an unexpected palette for a “fall wedding”.

The bride’s color choices were rooted with her love of the color of blue irises and her bouquet included both blue and white irises, yellow spray roses, lisianthus, yellow callas, delphinium, freesia, green gladiolus and bupleurum with a green silk dupioni ribbon.

The bridesmaids (including the bride’s sister who was one of my brides 2 years ago!) wore black and carried bouquets similar to the bride.  I love bridesmaids in black dresses.

The barn at Sleepy Hollow has huge windows and a great view!

It was mid-November, but the weather was warm and beautiful.  This is what Camel’s Hump looked like from inside the barn at Sleep Hollow.  A great backdrop for an indoor ceremony!

The air was warm, but you could still find snow on the ground where it was shaded from the sun.  I snapped this shot of the bouquet just before bringing it to Annie.

The wooden chairs in the barn have a rustic and clean feeling.  Potted rosemary in little galvanized sap buckets lined the aisle and also served as centerpieces.

The bride and groom grew the rosemary themselves…a truly noble DIY effort!

Customized pint glasses designed by the groom were their favors.  I Love ‘em!  They also made homemade peppermint bark.  Yum.

Here are a few more details from Andrew & Annie’s big day.

Susanna’s Catering created a serious sushi display which we accented with submerged irises.

Congratulations to Annie and Andrew!  No one could have predicted what a perfect day you’d have for your wedding.  I hope it was all you dreamed it would be.  Your DIY details and minimalistic, yet elegant touches complimented the rustic setting perfectly.  It is always a special privilege to work with more than one sibling in a family and I am so glad we worked together on your big day!

Fall Wedding at The Lilac Inn

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

October is a very popular month for a Vermont wedding…and with good reason!  This season of stunning foliage did not disappoint leaf peepers or happy couples and provided some amazing backdrops and scenery for photos.  If I had to pick one season for a quintessential Vermont wedding it would have to be fall.

Kellie and Joe were wed at The Lilac Inn in Brandon, VT and their color palette of purples, oranges and whites is certainly a step slightly out of the traditional autumnal palette.  When I first met this couple they had slected their colors, they knew the overall style for the flowers should be ruled by texture and the most important element for them was to incorporate bittersweet which grows abundantly in their home state of Rhode Island!

These bouquets are made up of mango callas, dahlias, gladiolus, spray roses, freesia, scabiosa (both flowers & pods), hypericum berries, rosemary, seeded eucalyptus & crocosmia.

When I saw Kellie at The Inn I added her lace bookmark and a broach as a finishing touch.

love their wedding logo and the book-theme at the reception.  Tables were named for authors and table cards sat atop books representing a few popular titles from each writer.

Their ceremony in the garden was complete with petals at the altar and chair flower details.

Their “novel approach” to a place card table was this super sweet card catalog!

Congratulations to Kellie & Joe!  You had perfect fall weather for your big day and with so many great DIY details your day was so personalized and special.  I look forward to seeing professional pictures of your smiling faces from Kathleen Landwehrle!

October Wedding at The Round Barn

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

Carolyn and Jason had their destination Vermont wedding at The Round Barn in Waitsfield during some gorgeous peak foliage this October.  When I met with Carolyn and her aunt I loved her laid back approach to planning the wedding.  Perhaps that’s due in part to the fact that she and her groom were so focused on training for Ironman!  Needless to say I was very impressed.

Carolyn wanted persimmon, brown, yellow, orange and red to comprise the color palette so true reds, oranges and peaches are featured in most of the flower combos.  They had gorgeous gold overlays on the tables from Occasions.  While it was clearly a fall wedding, their overall style felt more elegant & romantic than autumnal.

The bride wore a beautiful white dress and carried white dahlias, green & white roses, freesia and touches of bupleurum, dusty miller & apricot colored cymbidium orchids.  The bouquet was finished with a blue silk dupioni ribbon for a little punch of color.

Her bridesmaids wore brown dresses with persimmon colored pashminas and carried bouquets of yellow, orange & peach roses with yellow freesia, orange dahlias and apricot orchids.

The adorable little flower girl carried this birch basket.

Below is a centerpiece design that includes orchids, dahlias, roses, gerbera daisies, red gladiolus, bupleurum and bittersweet.

We lined the aisle for the outdoor ceremony with shepherd’s hooks and hanging mason jars.

Two urns marked the ceremony location under the tree.

Carolyn posed on the bridge for Dennis Curran.

The Round Barn is a great venue for an authentic Vermont wedding experience.

I love, love, love their place card display of tiny white pumpkins with cows on wooden picks.

Perrin from Vermont Cake Studio made a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and chocolate icing.  The smell was amazing.

Congratulations to Carolyn & Jason!  You had one of the most beautiful fall days for your Vermont wedding and the red, orange & peach tones are now one of my favorite color palettes ever!  It was such an elegant and unique way to do fall.

October wedding at The Ponds

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

I can remember my first meeting with Casey & Brett back when there was still snow on the ground.  I loved her vision of a black, white & chartreuse green color palette for a modern look with vintage inspired style.  She had a few specifics in mind:  a damask pattern of some sort, she loved silver greenery like lamb’s ear, and she wanted the flowers to be white and ‘black’, but other than that they just let me run with it.

The bride wanted a white bouquet that wasn’t too fussy including mostly dahlias with some mini callas, green hydrangea, a couple of roses and a few pops of burgundy scabiosa to add some ‘black’ accents.  For a touch of silver I added a collar of dusty miller and finished the bouquet with a chartreuse ribbon and a cameo from Brett’s grandmother.  LOVE that detail.

The bridesmaids wore beautiful grey dresses so we added a little touch of lavender to their bouquets to lighten them up a bit and added some burgundy callas for a darker accent.  Each bouquet had a different broach that Casey had collected.

There were 3 different centerpiece styles for the reception.  I covered glass vases with damask paper to feature the black and white palette.  Designs include white roses, green hydrangea, burgundy callas, sarracenia, green dianthus, brunia, chocolate fiddleheads, scabiosa, seeded eucalyptus, bupleurum and dusty miller.  Notice the super cute table numbers that Casey made…little buttons were attached to the tags and they said “all you need is love” on the side.

I found these chartreuse ceramic containers and knew they were perfect for Casey & Brett.  They were almost the exact same color as the menu cards (which Casey & Brett made!).

The Ponds was set and ready for an indoor ceremony and a lot of dancing afterwards!

Another DIY detail included these napkin rings.  I love the button theme!

The place card display was so cute!  Again, buttons make an appearance.

Here is a closer look at the indoor ceremony site I set up.

We softened the stone fireplace with lots and lots of rose petals!

Casey & Brett were married on October 1st at The Ponds and it was a close as we’ve come to having a monsoon wedding in Vermont!  They made the most of the space and we created a warm, cozy indoor wedding space.  The amazingly talented Daria Bishop was there to capture all the details of the day and I cannot wait to see the professional photos!

Congratulations, Casey & Brett!  Your attention to detail was fantastic and I absolutely loved your wedding style.  The buttons, the broaches, the menu cards…everything came together beautifully.  I am sure you’ll inspire some DIY brides!

Fall Wedding and Vibrant Foliage in Vermont

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Fall weddings and amazing foliage are in full swing here in Vermont!  Liz and Dan tied the knot at Windekind Farm in Huntington over the weekend surrounded by the most beautiful bucolic scenery.  Liz wanted fall flowers with a natural, harvesty feeling.  Liz looked so beautiful when I saw her standing on the porch posing for her photographer Stina Booth and Dan looked seriously dapper in his linen suit.  There was a chill in the air, gorgeous foliage all around and cows in the field.  What more could you want from a Vermont wedding?

The bride’s bouquet includes burgundy callas, mini-sunflowers, freesia, ‘Circus’ & ‘Milva’ roses, yellow freesia, burgundy dahlias, scabiosa & scabiosa pods, hypericum berries and agonis.

The five bridesmaids wore chocolate brown dresses with champagne pashminas.  They were so elegant, yet autumnal all at once.

The men wore peach rose boutonnieres with burgundy hypericum berries.

Martha’s Catering of Middlebury created an apple cider station under an apple tree, of course.  I love the cinnamon sticks in the mugs!

One cow.

Two cows.

The tent looked great with the colorful lanterns they set up!

The scene was quintessential Vermont.  Guests ooh’ed and ahh’ed as they arrived.

Congratulations to Liz and Dan!  You had the perfect fall wedding day and both looked fab-u-lous.  It was a pleasure to work with you.  You certainly created a memorable experience for your guests.  Wedding well done!
