Here Comes The Son

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

I’ve walked away from my office and my blog for the past couple of weeks…first I was preparing for the arrival of our baby girl and then I had the pleasure of welcoming our SON, John Quentin, into the world on March 31st.  He was quite a surprise since we had been expecting a girl for the past 6 months!  We are over the moon in love with him and have been enjoying every minute.

So, while I usually dedicate my posts to wedding tips and real Vermont weddings today I just had to share our favorite creation so far.  We’ll be spending the next couple of months focused on this little guy and then get all geared up for weddings in the end of June!

Floral Artistry 2011 Year In Review

Friday, December 30th, 2011

If you’re anything like me the end of the year may have snuck right up on you.  In 2011 we celebrated our 10th year in business and announced that we’re expecting a baby in the Spring, got a sweet little arbor pic in this article in The New York Times (page 2), made these super cute flower shoes, had 280 re-pins of my floral designs on Pinterest, and had a lovely “Unveiled” feature in Vermont Vows magazine (see pages 62-63 below).  We also worked with fabulous clients and vendors who made our 10th season both memorable and fantastic!  (You can check out some of our feature weddings here.)

It was a wonderful year full of flowers and I am looking forward to 2012.

Congratulations to all the newly engaged couples who are just embarking on their planning process and Happy New Year to all the newly weds who are celebrating their first holiday season as a married couple!

Here’s a peek at our Unveiled feature in Vermont Vows.  (Click image below for a closer look.)

♥♥ Thanks for stopping by my blog today!  I will see you next year with tips and ideas to help jumpstart your planning.

A Floral Arbor For Your Wedding

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

According to this article in The New York Times from December 16th (where you’ll see one of my birch chuppahs on page 2!) wedding arbors and chuppahs are increasingly popular no matter what your faith.  While a wedding canopy with floral details is a must-have for a Jewish ceremony, a flower-covered arbor is a beautiful addition to any wedding.

The father of the bride’s talus was used as the canopy for this purple and white chuppah.

This chuppah for a fall wedding at The Round Barn was covered in orchids and callas.

The bride’s grandmother’s lace tablecloth adorns the top of this chuppah for a summer ceremony.

The ceremony under this citrus colored arbor took place in a field of blueberries.

This is a photo I took of Laura and Andrew’s arbor/chuppah.  You can see Amanda from Orchard Cove Photography’s professional shot in The Times!

There are so many ways to make your ceremony special and a floral chuppah or arbor can make a truly beautiful setting!

Floral Artistry Gets Around

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

I get around.  Depending on your generation you are either singing Beach Boys or Tupac right now, but seriously folks, Floral Artistry got around this week!  Here are a few places my work showed up on the web this week:

Daria Bishop Photographers posted this gorgeous wedding on their blog that we did at Whiteface Club and Resort in Lake Placid, NY.  The couple is absolutely beautiful and so is the scenery, but I have to say that one of my favorite photos is of the bride’s hair in curls being sprayed with lots (and lots) o’ hairspray.  It’s one of the coolest photos of a bride getting her hair done that I’ve seen.  Maybe it’s my inner-Jersey-girl that is drawn to that fine, fine mist, but you should check it out and see for yourself.

A French (ooh la la)-Canadian site promoting the MS Carnation Campaign posted a link to my creme carnation design from DIY week.  The post is in French y’all so here’s the Google translated version, too.

Prepare to Wed gave me a shout out (again with a nod to my carnation post…the only carnations on my site by the way!) in this post about the royal bouquet.

Here’s another look at those famous carnations that made their way around both English and French speaking North America this week!

Bewitched, Bothered and Beholden

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

If you ask me Ella Fitzgerald is the bees knees.  She sings about being Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered by love so today I thought I ‘d throw out a few B-word definitions for brides in honor of Lady Ella and the fabulous new wedding line by Anthropologie that was unveiled on Valentine’s Day!  If you haven’t seen the bhldn site {pronounced beholden} you simply must check it out dahhhrrling.

Five B-Words for Brides

Bewitch {To affect by witchcraft or magic; cast a spell}

Bothered {Annoyed; pestered; worried}

Bewildered {Completely confused, puzzled or perplexed}

Bespoke {Made to individual order; (older usage) engaged to be married; spoken for}

Beholden {Anthropologie’s new wedding collection which you can explore at bhldn.com}  Check it out and find something fabulous and vintage-inspired to add to your wedding attire.

Here are a few of my favorite looks…just in case you have clicked through to their shop yet!

This first look is my faaavorite.  I just love it.  The shoes, the headpiece, I want it all.

This next dress is super adorable and affordable.  I love the dress and adore those golden yellow shoes, but I’d like to see the headpiece I selected below instead of the bow on the model.  You could even add a bolero and the whole look for under $1,300.

Yes, they have boleros.  End of sentence.  I want to wear one every day as I sit at my desk or design in my studio.  I uber love the pewter-grey attendant’s dress and think the blue bolero would be fabulous with it!…it would also be a great something new and something blue, too!  Plus, having your shoulders covered during the ceremony is classy…just sayin’.

Have you been to the bhldn.com yet??  Go, look, shop, enjoy!  You lucky bride you.

What’s your favorite look?

April is Greener Wedding Awareness Month

Friday, April 30th, 2010

April has come to an end, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t keep Greener Wedding Awareness Month in mind the rest of the year.  With a huge oil spill off the Louisiana coast this week I think there is no denying that we have room for improvement in the earth-friendly department!

There are Earth “days” and it’s nice that this month has been a time for folks to start walking the greener walk, but keeping these principles in mind in all aspects of our lives from weddings to grocery shopping to water consumption to pesticides and power useage is what being earth-friendly is truly about.  Eco-chic weddings are IN…don’t ya know?!

Tomorrow, May 1st, is Green Up Vermont Day!  Although it snowed about a foot earlier this week there is hardly a trace of it now (unless you’re in the mountains!) and it should be a nice weekend for greening-up VT!

In case you haven’t heard the news Vera Wang will be partnering with David’s Bridal to create a collection of affordable wedding gowns, which is great news for brides who’ll be shopping for gowns next Spring!  Read more about it here.

I look forward to seeing what Vera will come up with!  You can bet they’ll be a far cry from the style of the 1920′s bride pictured here!  By the way, what do you think of that bouquet?
