July Wedding at Shelburne Farms

Wednesday, August 8th, 2012

Carly and Charlie (do you love how that sounds as much as I do?) were married in Shelburne with a reception at The Coach Barn at Shelburne Farms this July.  There is something to be said for planning your wedding and being somewhat laid back about the details that others can get bogged down by…Carly was as trusting as a bride can be about letting me bring her “casual, wildflower feel” to life.  This couple had fun with the table numbers (they used different football players’ names in personalized frames!) and even had an arcade game for guests to practice their hunting skills on “Big Buck”.  I bet their guests got a kick out of that!

The bride’s bouquet featured yellow dahlias, mini green hydrangea, yellow, orange & white ranunculus, fresh mint and bupleurum.

The bridesmaids wore black dresses (beautiful, summery black dresses!) and carried bouquets that featured yellow roses.

Centerpieces in mason jars were filled with snapdragons, ranunculus, dahlias, freesia, roses, cottage yarrow and crespedia for a fresh-from-the-field wildflower feeling.

A wooden sap bucket greeted guests as they entered the coach barn.

Seating cards stamped with either a chicken, fish or carrot pointed guests in the right direction.

On a bright sunny day the Coach Barn was filled with light.

A little color in the courtyard welcomes guests.

Here is one more shot of the attendants’ bouquets all boxed up for delivery.  Love those yellow roses.

Congratulations to Carly and Charlie!  I often think about how exciting it must be for guests to visit Shelburne Farms for the first time as they drive down the road past the Dairy Barn, past the sheep and cows in the pasture, catching glimpses of Lake Champlain along the way and finally arriving on the shore of the lake on such a magnificent day.  Vermont at its finest.

June Wedding At The Coach Barn

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

Our 2012 wedding season is off to a later-than-usual start since I took a few months off to adjust to our new life with our son, John, but we kicked it off on June 30th at The Coach Barn at Shelburne Farms for Lauren and Steve’s wedding.  The style was both eclectic and vintage inspired with a gardeny feeling to keep in step with the season and beautiful location.

The bride carried a bouquet of white peonies, dahlias, roses, hydrangea, lisianthus and scabiosa with accents of ornamental kale, trachellium, fresh mint and ranunculus.

Here’s another shot of the bride’s bouquet.  I adore this color combination.

Kale is paired with roses, hydrangea, freesia and scabiosa for her attendants’ bouquets.

You can’t forget a little clutch bouquet for mom!

Boutonnieres that were not too flowery include scabiosa, trachellium, seeded eucalyptus and myrtle..

It was a truly stunning day for an outdoor wedding.

Centerpieces in wooden boxes were filled with dahlias, roses, hydrangea, kale, poppy pods, scabiosa, trachellium, eucalyptus and eryngium.

Eclectic vintage-style bottles also adorned the tables.

Place cards were displayed on old shutters in the elevator room.

Congratulations to Lauren and Steve who travelled from the other side of Lake Champlain for their destination wedding!  I hope you and your guests (some who travelled all the way from South Africa to share in the festivities!) had the best day.  You certainly chose a quintessential Vermont setting and a paired it with perfect weather.

Wedding at Shelburne Farms

Monday, July 26th, 2010

This wedding at Shelburne Farms was all about hydrangea!  When I met Lisa and her daughter just about a month before her July wedding I knew she would be great to work with.  She had a very clear vision of simple, clean hydrangea in multiple colors and a classic white bouquet for herself for an intimate ceremony including family and close friends.

Seeing Lisa on her wedding day was one of the most satisfying moments for us because she was so happy when she saw her flowers that Dave told me he got goosebumps and honestly, I did, too.  Thus proving that a second wedding can be incredibly exciting!

The bride’s bouquet includes hydrangea, roses, lisianthus, freesia and fresh lavender with a ruffle of variegated pitt along the edges.

Lisa’s daughter and soon-to-be daughter-in-law were her bridesmaids.  They carried blue, purple and green hydrangea with white roses, lavender, purple freesia and variegated pitt.  The men wore white spray rose boutonnieres with accents of fresh lavender.

As a final touch the bouquets were wrapped with doillies that belonged to the bride’s mother.

The wedding took place on the north porch of the Inn.  Simple centerpieces of multi-colored hydrangea adorned the tables and the delicious looking chocolate cake from Chef’s Corner.

As we walked through the Inn there was a display of fresh veggies from their gardens!

After we set up the flowers we took a few shots of the beautiful surroundings.  This is a view from the north porch at the Inn.

I love the view as you drive away from the Inn with the Coach Barn in the distance.

Bryan from Beltrami Studios caught us snapping this shot as he was on his way up the road.  He said that since we live here we don’t need to take pictures of cows anymore!  (He clearly has no idea how much I love cows!)

Congratulations to Lisa & Fran and their families!  Cheers, to love being lovelier the second time around…even if he is taking Lisa out of Vermont!

Classic white wedding bouquets

Monday, July 19th, 2010

These classic white bouquets were created for a wedding on Friday evening at Shelburne Farms.  The bride wanted something casual, yet elegant to compliment her apple green & silver color palette.  She grew wheat grass for centerpieces and displayed it on silver trays.

The bride’s bouquet includes mini green hydrangea, ranunculus, lisianthus, roses, spray roses, freesia, sedum, variegated pitt and lamb’s ear.

The image below is a view of the back of the bride’s bouquet (aka the bride’s view!).

Her four attendants wore charcoal-silver dresses with green pearls.

Here is a closer look at a bridesmaid’s bouquet.

Congratulations to Alesa & Rob!  I hope you had an amazing evening in an idyllic Vermont location!

VT Cows on Church Street

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

After a delicious breakfast at Penny Cluse Cafe on Sunday morning we took a stroll down Church Street in Burlington to check out these artistic cows for the Cows Come Home-Burlington!  Leunig’s, Gardener’s Supply Co, Burlington City Arts, Cabot Cheese & Shelburne Farms were a few names amoung the sponsors on the cows I photographed.  There are several more cows than I have included here so be sure to check them out in person and try to pick your favorite!

I didn’t need to look at the artist’s name to know that Katharine Monstream had her hands on this cow!  The artists created some beautiful cow-work and it’s hard to pick a favorite…I think I have 3 or 4 that are tied for 1st!  Which cow do you like the best?

What a Weekend

Monday, November 9th, 2009

We had a fantastic time at Shelburn Farms on Saturday and had the opportunity to meet some really great couples (and moms, too)!  The Coach Barn was buzzing with brides and vendors who were taking it all in.  As usual Krista Washburn and her fabulous team put together an event to remember for this year’s Wedding Affair.  The Marie Antoinette theme was complete with dancers in period garb, a spa full of talented make-up artists, a decked-out lounge, delectable food & drinks and a day full of seminars with tips for brides and grooms-to-be.  I was invited to conduct a seminar on “Practical Planing” which is right up my alley!  The tent for the fashion show was a sight to be seen draped with fabric and pink paper peonies hung from the chandeliers.  As always it was a wonderful end to a truly inspired event!

The Wedding Affair, Nov. 7th

Friday, November 6th, 2009

The Wedding Affair at Shelburne Farms is tomorrow, November 7th and the brides who are attending will be blown away by the creative and truly AMAZING details that Krista Washburn and the Vermont Vows crew have in store.  Dave and I will have a booth so stop by and say hi if you are at the Coach Barn.  I will be presenting a seminar on Practical Planning Tips at 5:30 and answering brides’ questions about planning their big day.  It’s one of my favorite days of the year and I am looking forward to it!  I’m off to design…
