Fresh Flower Shoes By Alison Ellis

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

My busy wedding season is winding up next week and I’d been looking forward to stepping out of the normal bouquet box to design something fun and unique for The Vermont Wedding Affair last Saturday.  I was inspired to use fresh flowers and greens to create “floral artistry” that you won’t normally see at a wedding.

Here’s a look at my floral fashion collection on display at Shelburne Farms.

Israeli ruscus, berzelia and purple trachellium with a lily grass wrapped heel.

A peek-a-boo pump covered in pink protea petals and foliage.

Billy buttons and trachellium adorn this Israeli ruscus heel with aspidistra leaf insole.

The purse was my favorite piece!  I wove a pattern with lily grass and added a pink button with pearl pin accents.

Over the weekend Vermont wedding vendors and engaged couples alike enjoyed a day at the Vermont Wedding Affair.  As always the event was filled with inspiring details, top rate vendors, complimentary spa treatments, savory bites and endless sweet treats.  I conducted a seminar with tips on personalizing your wedding day and I’ll pass along some tips to help you plan your upcoming wedding on my blog as well!

Were you at The Vermont Wedding Affair?  What did you think of the experience?

Vermont Wedding Affair at Shelburne Farms

Monday, November 8th, 2010

On Saturday afternoon Vermont Vows Magazine presented the state’s most gorgeous wedding show at Shelburne Farms.  The carnival theme at the Vermont Wedding Affair was both fun and charming.

I presented the first seminar of the day on Budget Savvy and DIY Planning Tips along with Nancy of NJoy Events.  I think every good wedding has at least one DIY project, but I always caution brides against doing your own flowers (see my post about why not here) and get a few helpful tips on DIY wedding projects here.

Daria Bishop Photographers had one of my favorite booths and posted some super fun photos from the day.  Check them out!  I am sure there will be many more posts to come and I look forward to seeing the professional photos from David Seaver.  Even Zoltar was there–yes, fans of the movie BIG, Zoltar.

Below is an arrangement I made for our display filled with hydrangea, ‘Patience’ garden roses (which have the most gorgeous fragrance), spray roses and variegated pitt for texture.

The Coach Barn was filled with smiling faces of happy brides, grooms, moms and bridesmaids.  There is a lot to see when Vermont Vows and some of Vermont’s best vendors pull out all the stops to both inspire and inform.   As always another impressive event designed by Krista Washburn and her team.

Did you attend the Wedding Affair?  What was your favorite part?

September Wedding at The Round Barn

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Katherine and Evan were married at The Inn at the Round Barn Farm on Saturday.  It was a lovely autumn day in Vermont for their destination wedding with the fall foliage just starting to show its peak colors.

The bride was very clear about wanting a fall inspired wedding that had a modern feeling with natural elements and “saturated colors” (Yes, her words and I love them!) like burgundys and oranges.  Other than that they were both very open to letting me just roll with the designs and I really love the way things came together.  Thanks to some gorgeous orchids which were a showstopper the flowers and colors came together beautifully.

The bride carried a cascading bouquet of burgundy & mango callas with orange mokara orchids and burgundy striped cymbidium orchids with a few touches of agonis.  Katherine looked stunning in her gorgeous dress which made the bouquet even more lovely.

Below (left) is a bridesmaid’s bouquet and a corsage for the grandmothers.

The nine bridesmaids wore black cocktail dresses with orange orchids in their hair.  Their bouquets included burgundy callas, orange orchids & burgundy dahlias.

I noticed one lone cow had wondered over as we were setting up so Dave snapped this shot.

The chuppah was adorned with orange mokara orchids and a few touches of burgundy.

A floral detail we added to the bridge leading to the ceremony and the place card display.

Mossy centerpieces featured mokara and cymbidium orchids, dahlias, artichokes and ornamental kale with lilies, berries and agonis.  Maple leaf bottle stoppers were their favors.

The Round Barn was all dressed and ready to impress.  It is such a great space!

Although it was a busy day with lots of faces I can remember meeting the bride’s mom at The Vermont Wedding Affair last November and when I learned that they won my gift certificate in the silent auction (as always the proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation) I was especially happy to be working on their big day.  After meeting with Katherine and Evan several months later and finding out more about their personal style I was even more thrilled to work with them.

Congratulations to Katherine and Evan and your families on a wonderfully executed day!  I am looking forward to seeing professional photos from Kristina of Vrai in Chicago as well as the wedding film by Marion of Tweed River Video.  Speaking of filmmakers…check out the groom’s website at dryspellproductions.com.

What a Weekend

Monday, November 9th, 2009

We had a fantastic time at Shelburn Farms on Saturday and had the opportunity to meet some really great couples (and moms, too)!  The Coach Barn was buzzing with brides and vendors who were taking it all in.  As usual Krista Washburn and her fabulous team put together an event to remember for this year’s Wedding Affair.  The Marie Antoinette theme was complete with dancers in period garb, a spa full of talented make-up artists, a decked-out lounge, delectable food & drinks and a day full of seminars with tips for brides and grooms-to-be.  I was invited to conduct a seminar on “Practical Planing” which is right up my alley!  The tent for the fashion show was a sight to be seen draped with fabric and pink paper peonies hung from the chandeliers.  As always it was a wonderful end to a truly inspired event!

Is it possible that I am already looking forward to next year’s show?!  The New York and Cape Cod/Nantucket brides are in for a treat!

The Wedding Affair, Nov. 7th

Friday, November 6th, 2009

The Wedding Affair at Shelburne Farms is tomorrow, November 7th and the brides who are attending will be blown away by the creative and truly AMAZING details that Krista Washburn and the Vermont Vows crew have in store.  Dave and I will have a booth so stop by and say hi if you are at the Coach Barn.  I will be presenting a seminar on Practical Planning Tips at 5:30 and answering brides’ questions about planning their big day.  It’s one of my favorite days of the year and I am looking forward to it!  I’m off to design…
