Floral Artistry 2011 Year In Review

Friday, December 30th, 2011

If you’re anything like me the end of the year may have snuck right up on you.  In 2011 we celebrated our 10th year in business and announced that we’re expecting a baby in the Spring, got a sweet little arbor pic in this article in The New York Times (page 2), made these super cute flower shoes, had 280 re-pins of my floral designs on Pinterest, and had a lovely “Unveiled” feature in Vermont Vows magazine (see pages 62-63 below).  We also worked with fabulous clients and vendors who made our 10th season both memorable and fantastic!  (You can check out some of our feature weddings here.)

It was a wonderful year full of flowers and I am looking forward to 2012.

Congratulations to all the newly engaged couples who are just embarking on their planning process and Happy New Year to all the newly weds who are celebrating their first holiday season as a married couple!

Here’s a peek at our Unveiled feature in Vermont Vows.  (Click image below for a closer look.)

♥♥ Thanks for stopping by my blog today!  I will see you next year with tips and ideas to help jumpstart your planning.

Fresh Flower Shoes By Alison Ellis

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

My busy wedding season is winding up next week and I’d been looking forward to stepping out of the normal bouquet box to design something fun and unique for The Vermont Wedding Affair last Saturday.  I was inspired to use fresh flowers and greens to create “floral artistry” that you won’t normally see at a wedding.

Here’s a look at my floral fashion collection on display at Shelburne Farms.

Israeli ruscus, berzelia and purple trachellium with a lily grass wrapped heel.

A peek-a-boo pump covered in pink protea petals and foliage.

Billy buttons and trachellium adorn this Israeli ruscus heel with aspidistra leaf insole.

The purse was my favorite piece!  I wove a pattern with lily grass and added a pink button with pearl pin accents.

Over the weekend Vermont wedding vendors and engaged couples alike enjoyed a day at the Vermont Wedding Affair.  As always the event was filled with inspiring details, top rate vendors, complimentary spa treatments, savory bites and endless sweet treats.  I conducted a seminar with tips on personalizing your wedding day and I’ll pass along some tips to help you plan your upcoming wedding on my blog as well!

Were you at The Vermont Wedding Affair?  What did you think of the experience?

Featured Wedding in Vermont Vows Magazine

Monday, January 31st, 2011

The release of the newest issue of Vermont Vows magazine is a semi-annual event up here.  When the newest issue comes out we all go a little ga-ga over the color palettes, feature weddings and details.  As wedding professionals we get to see what our fellow vendors have been up to and it’s always fantastic to hear what our couples think as they scour the pages for inspiration.

Check out pages 79-82 to see images from our feature wedding of Becca & Blain’s June wedding in Stowe, Vermont.

You can flip through more fabulous images from the 2011 Spring/Summer issue of Vermont Vows in an online sneak peek here!

Newly engaged couples should be marking their calendars and ordering tickets for The Vermont Wedding Affair on November 6th at Shelburne FarmsVermont Vows Magazine creates this event so you know it will be incredibly beautiful and inspired.  Check out the seminars and plan to stay for the fashion show at 6:30pm.  Eat, drink, be merry and meet some local Vermont wedding professionals you’ll be happy to work with.

Below is a centerpiece I made for a sweetheart table at Vermont Wedding Affair last year.

The centerpiece includes “brown” orchids, pale yellow roses, white dahlias, spray roses, green hydrangea & flowering eucalyptus pods.

Real Wedding at Sleepy Hollow

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Vermont Vows Magazine features Real Weddings on their website and thanks to a recent post by Kathleen Landwehrle I realized that one of my favorite couples, Matt and Yael, have a spotlight on the site.  I posted a few photos of the bouquets on my blog last December (back when I was a babe in the blogging woods!), but you can check out more details captured by Landwehrle Photography on vtvows.com right here!

Even though they were married last September I still have the shot below of Yael’s bridal bouquet as my screensaver.  I love the color palette she chose…and Matt designed my website so I think he’s pretty awesome, too!  They have a great story about their engagement on vtvows.com so check it out and enjoy the fun details they created for their guests.  By the way, the groom’s mom made the wedding cake (twice, due to a melting issue!) and she was amazingly calm throughout what could have been perceived as a disaster.  Ah, the memories!  It was a beautiful day and you can see they had a great wedding day!

Vintage-glam inspired

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Timing is everything.  When I stopped by the Vermont Vows & Well Wed offices to grab a few copies of the newest issue and mentioned to Krista Washburn that I was working on a vintage-glam inspired winter wedding for a friend like a super-heroine of ribbon & décor she pulled a variety of gray and silver ribbons, buttons and feathers out of her many bins of fabulousness to generously share with me.

Being a DIY bride and an artist, Melissa had most of the details figured out before we even met, so I jumped in to help add some finishing touches.  There were several creative hands on deck handling the details.  The bride’s mother not only made her wedding dress, but she made super cute hand muffs for the bride and her attendant adorned with her grandmothers’  (yep, both grandmother’s) vintage crystals.  One of my favorite details from her day has got to be her favors–hand crocheted snowflakes which were made by a friend!

Congratulations to Melissa & Shawn on a beautiful wedding created by so many loving hands!

Another amazing issue from Vermont Vows

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

When I saw Daria Bishop’s post on facebook about how beautiful the new issue of Vermont Vows magazine looks I could not wait to get my hands on one!  After pouring over the Spring/Summer 2010 issue it is clear that Krista Washburn has outdone herself once again!  From the beautiful bouquets to the tabletops designs to the feature weddings and the gorgeous gown shoot at the Fair–it is one amazing image after another!  This magazine is sure to inspire any bride-to-be and I can already hear pages being ripped out and pasted on inspiration boards.  As wedding professionals we are all pleased as punch to be a part of such a quality product that highlights all the talent and beauty that Vermont has to offer.  I was on-site for a shoot at Beltrami Studios in August and stole a few behind-the-scenes shots while I was there.  I know it’s a little early, but I already can’t wait for the next issue!
