Selecting Your Flowers

On your wedding day you want every detail to be perfect. From the perfect dress to the perfect reception to the perfect bridal bouquet. Not only do you want beautiful flowers, but you want designs made just for you.

Fresh designs by Alison are made especially for you from high quality flowers that have been hand selected for your wedding. Whether you desire the look of classic whites or an array of colorful blooms, you need designs that will look fresh & beautiful while withstanding the course of the day.

There are many different flowers and styles available for you to choose from. Take a look through different bridal magazines to get ideas together and cut out pictures of anything that catches your eye—colors, flowers, styles, ribbons, boutonnieres, etc. Although many of your choices may seem dissimilar, a professional florist will be able to make suggestions for a bouquet that fits you as well as your wedding dress!

Choosing your Color Palette

Once you choose your colors other details will start to fall into place. Many brides know their color palette prior to a consultation with their florist, however it is not unusual to discuss color options with your florist.

For those brides who are unsure, here are a few tips:
Take a look around in your every day life and try to notice what colors you feel good around. While you’re at work, walking down the street, or looking for dresses for your bridal party, take note of colors you feel drawn to—even if they aren’t the colors your wedding party will be wearing—they may be a great choice for wedding flowers. Remember these are the colors you want to surround yourself with on your wedding day. From the table linens to the boutonnieres & corsages, the colors you choose will help determine all these important details. Keep in mind that certain flower varieties may be dictated by your color palette as well as the time of year you will be married.

Flowers for Your Ceremony and Reception

Flowers for the altar or bema, outdoor arbor, chuppah, wooden bridges, unity candle arrangement, pew or aisle flowers, centerpieces, tent poles and entryway designs will mark your day with distinction. The location you choose for your wedding will undoubtedly have something special to adorn!

Greeting Your Guests

Welcome your guests with a sampling of some of the finest products Vermont has to offer. When you choose to greet your guests with fresh flowers or gift baskets in their rooms you set the tone for very special and personalized affair. Mason jars filled with organic garden blooms are a thoughtful detail that will be remembered by your flower fanatic friends and family members. Sap buckets or gift bags topped with Vermont-made chocolates, cheese, bottled waters, seasonal fruit such as freshly picked apples, strawberries or blueberries and wines from the local vineyards say, "Welcome to Vermont...have a taste!" Together we can assemble a welcome basket receipe that reflects your distinct style. Please allow 4-8 weeks notice for personalized welcome basket requests.

Centerpieces

Tablescapes can be elegant and formal or garden-like depending on your taste. Centerpieces designed in clear glass vases or rustic containers with rocks, moss, and branches evoke nature and Vermont. Rose-bowls or french galvanized buckets can be perfect vessels for a reception of round tables that seat 8-10 guests. Add votive candles for a more cozy, intimate setting. Once you have chosen colors and styles that suit your taste we will design a tabletop that represents your vision for the day.

Sweetheart Table

A sweetheart table is a tradition that many couples have adopted where the bride and groom sit at a small table together at the reception to allow the newly weds some time to themselves.

Tip: Consider placing a clear glass vase filled with water on the head table or sweetheart table and use the bridal bouquet in the vase as a centerpiece. It is a beautiful way to display your bouquet and to maximize its use. Other great places to display the bridal bouquet are on the cake or gift tables.

Hand-tied & Trailing Bouquets

Hand-tied bouquets are extremely popular and my personal favorite. They are frequently requested and most often featured in bridal magazines. It is a compact design style with the stems either exposed or wrapped in ribbon that remains very trendy and stylish. This technique can be used with just about any floral combination and style from roses and callas to wildflowers.

Other styles of bouquets are also available. Pomanders of roses have a unique appeal for brides who want to make a floral statement. Arm bouquets created from callas, orchids, and grasses can be elegant and dramatic. Trailing bouquets of ivy, jasmine, lilacs, and vines also make a lovely statement for a cascading look.

Tip: On your wedding day, when you are not being photographed you should keep bouquets in water. Do not store in direct sunlight or a hot room as flowers require cooler temperatures to stay fresh.

Consultations

You should begin talking to your floral designer as soon as you feel ready to plan color or flower choices (or anywhere from 15-6 months prior to your wedding date). Gather information about the site for your ceremony & reception as well as any photos or swatches you may have that will help in the decision making process. Most importantly, have fun with this part!

Some things to bring to your consultation:
  • Any pictures of flowers, colors, bouquets, etc. that you have cut out of magazines.
  • Swatches of bride and attendants' fabric or pictures of dresses if available.
  • Information concerning your ceremony and reception, such as the approximate number of guests/tables for your reception, etc.

During our consultation we will explore the different aspects of your day and discuss the details of your floral selections. From fragrance and color to sizes and numbers we will try to cover it all in about an hour (give or take 15 minutes or so)!

Your initial consultation is complimentary. A signed contract and deposit will reserve your date. Upon booking an additional 1-2 hours of consultation time will happily be provided at no charge depending on size of event. Additional creative consultation time will be billed at $75 per hour.
